There is a good cluster of silicon there.

How to beat the Scientific Tutorial: Don' explore the northwest corner, wait for the other players to place their HQs (help steer them in the wrong directions with a little exploration to the south and east), after they place their HQs and initial claims then explore the far NW corner. So landing right next to a water/iron field is still a great idea! :) However I would note that, although you can basically place your buildings anywhere, having them connected to your base is still advantageous, because of the fuel you save that way. Basically, from both saved claims you already have a pair of glass factories, who are usually a very good early investment. They can make hydrolisis without need for water production (claim saved) to get oxygen, and place the glass mill right on the silicon without building a silicon mine (claim saved). If they don't, because it might be a claim-expensive setup, you might find yourself with a food industry and rising food prices because nobody can quite cope with their demands due to low water.Īlso don't underestimate scientifics options at making glass. If you cut off some good water, people will have to build more water pumps for the same production, and then also need claims on the farms themselves. This means that a commodity might be rarer, as well as all commodities made from it.
You also want to favor finished good over raw materials at any given time, unless they start being worth less than the base material, at which point scrapping and replacing makes sense.Īt any rate, claiming good spots, even if it doesn't increase your production, will limit the other player's access to that resource. With scientific I would recommend putting things like farms, hydrolisys or even steel mills on the highest tiles available, as long as it still alows for good adjacency bonuses (little triangles being optimal for adjacency). My goal with this post is to simply open a discussion about the strategies for a Scientific game and to maybe distil my thoughts down to a coherent recomendation to the devolopers for a possible AI change if neccessary. I think Mohawk and Stardock have really come up with a very novel and fun concept for those of us who are economy game hounds. I am REALLY enjoying this game right now. Just so everyone understands, this is not a post to gripe about anything. Does this effectively take those resources out of the game making them more rare? So what happens to the rest of the water if I place it on a level 4? Are those resources lost? If so, I have noticed that the AI will place their science buildings on the highest resource they can find. When placing, I see that I get no benefit from placing say a Hydroponic Farm on a level 1 water source verses say a level 4 water source. I am wondering about placing the building on the resources and if this is worth doing.
I would like to open a discussion about the Scientific Tutorial as well as what I assume will be a Scientific position when I get past this tutorial.
